A Training Assessor
My first visit is to Wellingborough to do some learner testing. Arriving slightly early, I set my laptop up while chatting with the learner. I explain the guidelines and that the test is under exam conditions and the learner starts. She completes the test within an hour and I can get the results immediately. The learner is delighted to learn that she has passed.
My next visit is to a new learner in Northampton, and I explain in detail everything that will happen while she is on the programme. I spend some time with the learner and her manager to plan how the work will fit in with her job role. The learner feels much happier now that she knows exactly what will be assessed. I set work for my next visit and agree this with her manager before I leave.
Kettering is my next port of call, where I have three learners. The first is half way through her course, and the other two are ready to finish their qualifications. The first visit goes well, and the learner is pleased with the progress she is making. Before I leave I schedule my next visit with her, and update her manager on how she is doing.
At the next site my learner informs me that she is unable to see me off the shop floor as they are short staffed. She is relieved that I am able to continue with the visit as usual, and has done more than the amount of work needed to be able to complete her qualification. As I was filling out the final paperwork and discussing her progress with her manager she served a few customers, telling all of them what she had just achieved.
The final learner of the day is in the same placement, but she is able to see me in the staff room as usual. Again, she has produced over and above the amount of work needed so has also completed her qualification. Both the learner and her manager are delighted by this, and thank me for all the work I have done with them. The learner explains how much she has enjoyed the programme, and how much knowledge and experience she has gained. I leave the placement with the two completed folders.
Once I arrive at home, I process all the necessary paperwork relating to the visits I have carried out, and finally plan my visits for the following day. I phone the learners that I am due to see tomorrow to confirm that it is still convenient for me to come. I then put my phone and laptop onto charge and reflect on the day. Each day is different and each learner provides you with a new challenge. It’s nice to feel that you can make a difference and provide people with a chance to succeed.
A Learning Support Training Assessor
I have three visits scheduled for today firstly in Kettering, then Weston Favell and finally back to Northampton. I take all the files with me, each one containing carefully planned learning aids and activities based on each learner's Personal Learning Plan and linked to each one's favoured style of learning.
Arriving in Kettering, I have two learners who I usually see together. The session goes well and we practise the tasks that they have been given to ensure they feel fully comfortable with them. One of the learners wants some more help with a particular area, and we agree to spend some more time on this during my next visit. Before I leave, I give her some fact sheets to read through to help her develop more knowledge in this area as well.
All the work we do and the plans for the next visit are documented to ensure that we keep a clear record of everything that each learner does. I discuss the progress of the two learners with their manager before I leave, and she comments how much more confidence the learners have in dealing with customers since starting the programme. Finally, I arrange a time and date for my next visit.
Still in Kettering I meet with a new learner, and carry out a diagnostic test with her. This identifies the areas with which she needs most help and all essential information that we will use to create her Personal Learning Plan during the next visit. All this information is stored in a central file to ensure that progress is being made and value is continuously being added to the learning.
My next learner in Weston Favell has almost completed his qualification, and we check through everything he has done to ensure he has covered all the areas of learning needed to pass his on line test. He does a practise test, which he passes, and I arrange a convenient time with his manager for him to sit the final test. I leave him with a workbook to enable him to revise all the basic areas of learning that may be included in this final test. I make him promise to let me know his results as soon as he has finished.
My last learner is in Northampton and we have a great session, with some really good work that she has produced for me. We cross reference this to the Standards and her Personal Learning Plan, and are able to sign off another unit. She is one step closer to achieving her goal, and both she and her manager are really pleased with the progress she is making.
Finally I can head off for home, happy with the way that my day has gone, and looking forward to tomorrow and the difference that I am able to make for all my learners.
