About Apprenticeships

Already got a job? We offer work-based qualifications that develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to work in a specific job or industry.

You are assesed by your very own Training Assessor who observes you in your work place and will help you create a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate the new skills you have learnt.

An Apprenticeship/Advanced Apprenticeship is made up of 3 parts:

A National Vocational Qualification
NVQs are made up of vocational and knowledge based units.  The vocational units focus on the practical skills needed to do the different parts of your job whilst the knowledge units ensure you understand why your  job is done the way it is.

Key Skills (Core Skills in Scotland)
All jobs require a number of key skills to ensure it is done well, these always include using numbers and communication skills plus a selection from:

- Information technology
- Working with others
- Problem solving
- Improving your own learning and performance

Technical Certificate
This is used to test your knowledge and understanding of the industy you work in.
